Workshops

We connect staff and students via events, such as our Practitioner and Student Network sessions and annual Symposium. We also profile member success stories and case studies in our monthly newsletter. Below are a range of guides, mapping examples and case studies.

As a member of SVA, you are strongly encouraged to contribute to these examples, sharing your own case study or resource. To submit your case study, or to discuss how you might capture your work for sharing, contact SVA Coordinator Ana Kuleshova at sva@usq.edu.au

Workshops

Our workshops are licensed under Creative Commons, with the intention that you can adapt them to suit your local context. Each workshop is accompanied with facilitator notes and worksheets. For support with facilitation or preparation to run a workshop, please feel welcome to contact SVA Coordinator.

Student Representative Induction

This student representative induction plan has been created as an introductory 3-hour session, divided into 3 modules. However, this could be condensed to 1.5 hours by omitting some of the activities and slides or alternatively extended into separate module workshops, spending more time on activities and institutionally specific information. Each module contains good practice learning outcomes with generic content. You can choose which slides and activities work for your institution and modify to include references relevant to your current situation.

Navigating Wellbeing as a Student Leader

This interactive session is designed by the wellbeing team at Murdoch University for the SVA, to help you manage your well-being while supporting students who look up to you as a leader.

Student and Staff Faculty Partnership Workshop

This workshop is designed to run for approximately 2 hours, although this will depend on the size of the group, whether you wish to spend longer on each activity, and if you are including a lunch break and networking opportunities. It is an interactive, group and activity-based workshop that focuses on developing and strengthening staff-student relationships by asking participants to consider partnership opportunities within the faculty context. The workshop has been designed to be conducted in person, however can be adapted for online facilitation using breakout groups and shared digital whiteboards/worksheets to capture group work and brainstorming.

Understanding and Engaging with your Institution

This workshop brings together staff and students to explore the diverse relationships within their University, to examine the existing student-focused initiatives, and to explore possibilities for improvement by developing new approaches and initiatives which enhance student perspectives. The workshop is designed to run for approximately 2 hours, although this will depend on the size of the group, whether you wish to spend longer on each activity, and whether you are delivering it online or in person. It is an interactive, group and activity-based workshop that uses the included worksheet
