Join SVA’s Committees
Each year, SVA invites nominations from current members (staff and students) to join our decision-making committees.
Nominations are now open for 2026 positions.

SVA Members are any students or staff from a current financial member institution. Current members are listed on the SVA website.
If members’ eligibility changes at any time throughout their leadership term, the member must advise the SVA Coordinator as soon as possible.
Members must remain current paying institutional members of SVA
Student members must remain a currently enrolled student for the duration of their term, and must not hold a staff appointment of above 0.6FTE.
All members are expected to actively participate in meetings, contribute to discussions, and engage in decision-making processes to support the committee's objectives.
If members are not actively engaging in their roles by non-attendance at meetings, or non-response to email communication for extended periods they may be asked to step down from their positions by the Convenor.

Membership durations are specified in the committee Terms of Reference.
Operational Committee members will serve for a period of one year and can extend on the committee for a period of up to two consecutive years on the same committee. Members may be able to extend beyond this two year period, with a focus on promoting a range of diverse voices.

All committee members actively participate in meetings, contribute to discussions, and engage in decision-making processes to support the committee's objectives.
Steering Committee- Provides strategic oversite, governance and direction for SVA.
(4 x meetings per year + a Planning Meeting)
Operational Committee- Provides the delivery of the action plan and leads projects.
(4 Meetings Per Year + Planning Meeting + SVA Award Shortlisting) -
Co-Convenor(staff or student):
Leads meetings in accordance with the Terms of Reference, sets agendas with the SVA Coordinator, ensures the committee stays on track, represents the committee externally, and ensures effective decision-making.
Ensure proper conduct of debate, preserve order in the meeting generally and to ration discussion time if necessary ensuring student and staff equal contribution.
To summarise key points in a discussion and to convert major themes of discussion into recommendations or resolutions.
General Committee Members(staff or student):
Prepare by reading meeting materials and providing any relevant feedback prior to meetings
Contribute to decision-making, offer expertise and guidance
Attend meetings, and execute actions as agreed.

Complete the nomination form online before Friday 13 February 2026. Nominations may be extended only if positions remain vacant.
